Day 1: In School
Today we were summarised about the trips we were going to cycle and the information
leaflet we had to create. We also critiqued the lay outs of different leaflets
and maps so we could work out the best layout for ours. Then we worked out whose
houses were the farthest north, east, south and west. We marked this on a
map.

Day 2: Cramlington
Today was our first real cycle trip; we went north first and before we had even left
the gate Jake’s gears stopped working. After that we soon got going up to
Northburn, but on the way we learned how to communicate on our bikes and warn
people about the oncoming hazards. We then went to the east of Cramlington, but
that was all we were able to get to but we ran out of time and had to turn back.
But the point of the trip was be able to go to the furthest points of
Cramlington and to stay off the roads.

Day 3: East Cramlington Nature Reserve
Today we went just for a trip East Cramlington and found out that if you look hard enough you will always find cycle routes whether there off road or on tarmac they do exist. This
was our second trip; we went from school to the spoon near Seghill. We took a
picture of our group at the spoon which is now on our map.
Once we left the spoon we carried on through the fields to the nature
reserve. We visited here to learn about the colliery and the mining history. We
returned to school and looked at some real historical artefacts to learn more
about this.

Day 4: In School
TodayWe
started looking at mining artefacts of which the miners would have had to use
down in the mines. We also had to design the layout of the leaflet/map. These
were of course drafts at the moment because the rest of the class had to
critique it to make the layout better. Once we completed this we worked out the
route for the trip to Northumberlandia.

Day 5: Northumberlandia
This
was our third trip out and we had cycled out to Northumberlandia, but before we
had got into it we had to carry all of our bikes over the gates and walk them
through the park because you are not allowed to cycle in the park or on
Northumberlandia. After that though we were able to go to the top of
Northumberlandia and take quite a few pictures and have a good view of the
surrounding areas, like the mine and the coal refinery.

Day 6: Blyth Battery
This
was our sixth trip out and we have to cycle along to Blyth batteries and then to
Seaton sluice, we worked out the route we were going to take without going on
roads. So we were on our way down
to Blyth and it started to rain but we carried on never the less. We got to
Blyth batteries and learn a bit of information about them such as it was built
for WW1. We travelled along to, Seaton Sluice to get some fish and chips. We
left there and went through Holywell dene which is quite suitable for bikes but
there are gates which you need to life your bike over.

Day 7: Newcastle
Today
we went to Newcastle on the bus, we went to the keep in the middle of Newcastle,
and the keep is what the original name for Newcastle came from. We then went
down to the quayside for dinner and some of us went and played volleyball, and
learnt about the history of the Tyne, which imported and exported a lot of coal
in the 1880’s. But before that we had gone to the discovery museum and learned
some information about some of the boats that might have been built and first
launched on the Tyne.

Day 8: In School
Today we had to see what we had to finish are still create, so we gave each other jobs
on which had to be still created such as this dairy and the environmental health
benefits. Also a person came into school to teach out about health and
wellbeing, and we need to critique a questionnaire to improve our skills for the
future.

Day 9: Earsdon
Today
we cycled to the Earsdon church and saw the memorial and we gave our respects
to the people who died in the Hartford pit disaster. But on the way there Alex
crashed into a car and took off the wing mirror and then about 3 minutes later
he crashed into a bollard. We also saw Derik the horse. I like Derik. We then went home and had a little bit
more work to do before the end of the day

Day 10: Segedunum
Today was our longest bike ride and route to Segedunum and some people struggled to
complete the ride. We had lunch at the café at segedunum and it was a great
accomplishment to complete the 24 mile bike ride just on cycle paths or wagon
ways.
